DIY Organize

I had some extra canvases on hand so I decided to make an organizer for the piles of mysterious papers on my desk. It works well as an Inbox - Outbox - Bills - Misc tower.

Clothes

I actually found some great pictures on the internet of models wearing some items I actually have in my wardrobe. I like seeing how glamorous people wear these items, because then I can learn from them!

Working

WELCOME, last year of law school!!!! I worked at the AGO all summer as a legal intern in Financial and it's been a good learning experience. Now, it's fall, and I've moved to enforcement (also Financial). If I thought I enjoyed myself before, now I truly love love love it! In my first week, I got do research and draft from scratch a really really super interesting lawsuit (not going into detail, sorry). My coworkers - and boss, especially - is just amazing to be around. There's a great dynamic and unity here. I'm also happy that upon completing my last project, I have a new one to work on. I'm also very excited, because having my Rule 13, when I'm ready, they're going to let me go to court and argue a case...! I go to court all the time and love it, so the prospect of ME being up there makes me want to weep tears of joy.

The downside to school and working though, is that I've gained some weight. It's quite annoying. However, the last few weeks I've been eating healthier and having smarter snacks at my desk - goodbye sugary cereal bar - hello broccoli. It doesn't help that when I get home, I like to cook and bake and then eat... And my other hobbies are not exactly active. I like to sew, and craft, and read... Also my other job is law school! I am going to make a dedicated effort to (1) go to the gym more, and (2) be more active in general, and take up additional hobbies, such as tennis, going to the park, and well, something. Not being able to fit into my clothes has been very depressing!

Meanwhile, I have been looking at LLM programs to apply for - yes, because I need more law school (slight sarcasm). Ideally, I could attend night classes while working during the day, and then I wouldn't be too financially strapped. I am absolutely passionate about Tax Law, and I want this LLM to help me to become an even bigger pain in the ass for opposing counsel!

Lawsuit got you down? Come enjoy a delicious cupcake!

Cupcake shop + law offices = best business model ever!
Why hasn't anyone thought of it before?

I used 12" x 12" cardstock paper. I freehanded most of it with a pair of scissors, but drawing a stencil may work better for some.

It is quite large - big enough to put in the window!

Lockets

When we first came to the US, we were really poor and did without many of the things that many would consider basic necessities today. One day at school, one of my classmates was wearing a locket and I had never seen one before. I immediately fell in love with the idea that one could wear pictures of their loved ones and take it wherever they went. I told my mom about this brilliant idea, but of course I didn't ask her to buy me one, because we couldn't afford such a thing.

Somehow, she must have found a way, because a few weeks later, she surprised me with a goldish locket with pictures of the 3 of us inside. I can still remember how absolutely stunned and happy I was. Even though my family became more affluent, of all the memories of my childhood, I treasure this one most. I finally decided that instead of letting it sit around in my jewelry box collecting dust, I should infuse it with my modern flair so that this beautiful relic can shine in the spotlight once more. Considering my journey thus far, I thought a peacock feather would be particularly appropriate.

This is what the back looks like. The original front looked just like this too, before I added the feather.

And the inside has never changed...

Final unveiling! To this very day, lockets are still my very favorite kind of jewelry. For my birthday this year, Ryan gave me a silver locket engraved with his pet name for me. And while he's also given me gifts that have been much more extravagant, the locket is still my favorite. Past, meet my future :)

DIY ring and flower necklaces

I started out with pink wire and glass beads. It is very important that the beads and wire are similarly colored. Cut the wire into pieces of equal length, bead, and hook the ends together with pliers. If you don't have beading implements - I used a pair of pliers from Ry's toolbox.

I wove the rings together with a ribbon and made a "Z" shape with leftover wire to form a fastener. Curl the ends so the ribbon loops don't slip off!

I started out with plain grosgrain ribbon. Sew the bottom of the ribbon first to create ruffles. Then, just wind the ribbon in circles until you have a flower of the size you want.

Make several flowers - all of the same color or of different colors, according to personal taste. I used a glue gun to glue the flowers onto a ribbon. I didn't want the back of my necklace to be covered with stitches. I used a regular hook and eye (like in skirts) to fasten the ends because that was what I had on hand.

Voila, now it's ready to beautify any outfit!

DIY Accessories

This is just a gallery of things I made but didn't really bother to take progression photos for.

This is a chain necklace made with grosgrain ribbon and fabric glue. No sewing at all! It reminds me of those construction paper chains we made in grade school. I bet I could rock this at a 4th of July BBQ.

Here is a pink fabric flower and a bead bracelet I made.

My first attempt at Kanzashi flowers. The fabric I used (cotton-ish) was too thick, but it still turned out ok. Glue gun is a lifesaver here!

I got a lot of bangles at Walmart for $1 for about 10 of them. I painted them with nail polish, and as shown here, wove them together in groups of 3.

A whole spool of 2" ribbon, folded in half vertically and sewn... Took forever!

Made one in pink, except didn't fold the ribbon in half. Looks nicer, I think.

These I made from fabric scraps.
